Plant Sale Thank You

2019
Grimsby Garden Club

Annual Plant Sale

Thank you to all the volunteers and businesses that donated their time and plants to the Plant Sale.

We had an amazing turnout!

Your community support is much appreciated!

Grimsby Garden Club 2016 Plant Sale Success

This year's plant sale was an enormous success. This is our major fundraiser each year:  we raised more than $2700, exceeding our fundraising goal by 35%.

And, we raised $133 for the Highway of Heroes. Amazing!

Our innovations and front-end effort really paid off. Having the plants dug up, potted, labeled and priced days in advance was a huge factor in the sale running smoothly. Improved signage helped eliminate confusion and the new table covers provided a pleasing and professional environment that contributed to the sale's overall success. Donations from wholesalers and growers enlarged our member contributions with significant revenue results.

Staging an event of this magnitude is not an easy task.  It just won’t happen without our volunteers. Everyone who volunteered -- from set up to tear down and every job in between – is appreciated so much.

Thank you for being an incredible volunteer. It is your commitment, spirited energy and hard work that have made the difference in this year’s results.

These are the generous companies whose donations made our plant sale a success:

  • Hendriks Greenhouses
  • Ridgeview Garden Centre
  • Trillium Hill Greenhouses
  • Ultra Grow Growers of Quality Bougainvillea
  • Van Noort Bulb Company
  • Valleybrook Gardens (Heritage Perennials)
  • Freeman's Herbs
  • CosMic Plants "Colour Emotion Life"
  • CanWeb (our plant sale signs)

Potting Up will need Pots and People!

Hi everyone,
It's Marilyn Cornwell and I am hosting the potting up  tomorrow Tuesday, April 26th 1:00 till 4:00pm my house at 3 Sunnylea Cres.

If it is raining, the backup date is Wednesday, April 27th 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the same location.

Our sale is Saturday, May 7th, 9:00 - 12:00 or sold out.

Please bring your plants for potting, some pots as we really need them.  And while you're here, enjoy the conservatory with its summer blossoms and temperatures.  There's a porch and potting benches, and lots of room to work.

While this weeping cherry is not in my back yard, it is blooming now in St. Catharines on Niagara Street across from Laura Secord Secondary School.  I hope there is something blooming in your garden too.

I hope to see you tomorrow.

Our Plant Sale is Coming May 7th!

There are two events coming up for those who love plants! Check out our digging up day and then the Plant Sale day.  We'd love to see you at both events.

Meeting Monday April 25th, 7:00pm

Rob Howard speaks on Nine Things He Learned from Other People's Gardens

Rob Howard is a family man who lives and gardens in Hamilton. He's been garden columnist at The Hamilton Spectator for more years than he likes to admit – more than 25 years - and has been organizer of the highly successful Hamilton Spectator Open Garden week for 23 of those.

He loves visiting other people's gardens and in the last few years has been able to visit gardens farther afield as he escorted garden tours to England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, France and Holland and Belgium. Last year, he led  a trip out west to see the public and private gardens of Banff, Vancouver and Victoria.  Rob retired – except from his garden writing -- last fall and says the best part of that is spending more time in his, and other people's gardens. His talk is about things he's learned in some of those gardens.

Our Plant Sale Is Coming - Saturday May 30 9:00am till sold out (noon)

If you are a Grimsby Garden Club member, you likely know that we are active in supporting and sponsoring activities that will beautify Grimsby gardens.  Our major fundraiser each year is the annual plant sale.  This year it is May 30th starting at 9:00am at the Senior Centre on Livingston Ave. We raise funds in order to sponsor garden-related activities in our community.  These include:

1  maintenance of the Elm Street bed and the Hospital Garden beds

2  sponsoring and planting the Town hanging baskets

3  scholarships for Grimsby high school students registered in a post-secondary horticultural program

4  monthly meetings and workshops with speakers and presenters

5  participation in events sponsored by the Ontario Horticultural Association

6  participation in Grimsby events (e.g.  annual Rotary Christmas Tree Display)

We depend on our members for the majority of plants and items from our members’ own gardens and tools sheds for garden-related items  (e.g. decorative pots and garden tools).  Please consider contributing something to the sale - it would be helpful if you could label your plants and note the flower colour.

Are you a member who has something to give to the sale?   We have a drop off location at Marilyn Cornwell's - 3 Sunnylea Cres AFTER May 17th and BEFORE Friday May 29th.

Or you can bring them to the Senior Centre on Friday, May 29th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.
