Grimsby Garden Club at the Fantasy of Trees

Grimsby Garden Club Decorates in the Fantasy of Trees

November 24th wasGrimsby's Fantasy of Trees decorations day.  This is a festival celebrating Christmas trees sponsored and decorated by Grimsby businesses and individuals.  The trees are raffled, with the proceeds going to local charities.  Trees are decorated in themes - one of the highlights is the Historical Society theme of Grimsby restaurants from years gone by.  Another amazing tree is the Harry Potter tree.  These are only two trees out of 40, so make sure you visit.
Here's Mary McLaren decorating on behalf of the Grimsby Garden Club.  She's definitely on top of things.  Below are Lauren Doig and Lynette Bickham at the Decorators' lunch.
Our Potluck Dinner is Monday, November 28th and starts at 6:00pm.  It is at the Livingston Activity Centre.  Bring your mug for an extra raffle ticket!

Monday, November 28 2016 6:00pm potluck and Annual General Meeting

Potluck Dinner at 6:00pm
Annual General Meeting and speaker

Speaker:
Sandi Marr
Topic:  Urn Decorating and Arrangements
Eleven years ago, Sandi created a porch pot for her front step in Waterloo, and a neighbour asked her to make one for her own porch.  Soon she found herself receiving more invitations and making more arrangements.  Now she's a floral designer at Flowers Niagara in Welland.  In addition,  she'll create about 200 custom order arrangements this year.  A teacher at heart she takes pleasure in showing others the creative process.  She will take us through her journey with porch pots, and then show us how she creates her urn decorations.  A lucky member will get to take home the urn insert!

October's Garden of the Month - 398 Maple Ave

October Garden of the Month - 398 Maple Avenue
We hope you all enjoy the stunning display at 398 Maple Avenue for our last Garden of the Month for the year. From fruit farmers to flower growers, Ed Sobkowich Greenhouses have certainly helped to beautify Grimsby throughout the seasons.

We were first struck by the waterfall surrounded by masses of colour. The many calibrachoa in shades of pink, purple, white and red were highlighted by the tall grasses and lovely carpet of pink and purple alyssum. The multi-coloured hanging baskets formed a gigantic ball of breathtaking hues perfectly balanced by the vibrant coleus, petunias, verbena and red canna lilies underneath. Their garden holds many vignettes each just as striking as the next. Do not miss this spectacular Fall garden.
Winning gardens are chosen based on our criteria for curb appeal, colour design, and maintenance.
Wendy Frank and Beth Sommers

2016 Trillium Recipients

August 8th 2016

The 2016 Trillium Program has awarded 49 Trilliums to Grimsby’s beautiful front garden viewable from the street.  Gardens include residential, condos, townhouses, apartment buildings, and non-residential properties.  This is the first year that our Trillium Program is based on nominations, and it was a great success.  Thanks to our gold and silver sponsors who made advertising possible for this new approach.  There were 110 nominations, 87 nominated gardens and 49 Trillium recipients.

We have listed the addresses on our website, blog and in the news media. This will mean that residents, friends and neighbours can enjoy a self-guided tour of Grimsby’s prettiest summer gardens.

Here are a few of the gardens...they will be posted on the website by the middle of August.

The recognition event is Wednesday, September 14th, at 7:30pm at Grimsby Town Hall.  We will be showcasing nominated and Trillium recipient garden owners and gardens. A social gathering with treats and coffee/tea etc will be part of the evening.
