Grimsby Garden Club Field Trip July 27 2015 to Benchscape

6:45pm– 8:00pm                 Benchscape - 3910 Mountain Street, Beamsville, ON L0R 1B2

8:00pm onwards                The Syndicate – 13 Mountain Street, Grimsby, ON L3M 3J7

Our Members' Field Trip this takes us to Benchscape - a stunning residential house located in Beamsville on three acres of property.  The house and garden is the design of the award-winning firm Lex Parker Design Consultants Ltd.  Lex will be in the garden for tours and questions.

Stroll through the garden paths, enjoy the panoramic views, and visit with the two of the gardeners - Wendy Fletcher in the Vegetable Garden and Marilyn Cornwell in the Edible Flower and Herb Garden.

The gardens have many interesting structures, elements and features. At the entrance is a remarkable central feature - a bubble rock with the remains of the original tree root still clinging to the rock.  As one passes through the breezeway between the house and garage, the scenic vista opens up with exceptional panoramic views over the Lake to Toronto and Hamilton.  The north of the house has a series of inter-connected patios. A highlight is the black reflecting pond and waterfall that ripples down a black granite face.

Casual stone steps and walkways lead down the hillside towards garden destinations - the trellis arbour, the fire pit, and the potting shed with vegetable garden.  The night garden features LED path lights and illumination throughout the garden.

We’ll conclude our evening at the Syndicate, 13 Mountain Street, Grimsby for drinks and snacks on the patio after 8:00pm.
